よく映画を見ます。
Suzuki san:
Sumisu san no shumi wa nan desu ka.

Sumisu san:
Watashi no shumi wa ongaku wo kikukoto desu.

Suzuki san:
Sou desu ka. Watashi no shumi wa hon wo yomukoto desu. Kobayashi san wa.

Kobayashi san:
Yoku eiga wo mimasu.
Mr Suzuki:
''What is your hobby, Mr Smith?''

Mr Smith:
''My hobby is to listen to music.''

Mr Suzuki:
''Oh yes? My hobby is to read books. And you, Miss Kobayashi?''

Miss Kobayashi:
''I often watch movies.''

The ''-masu'' form of the verb

Except for '' です'', all of the verbs are ending with ''-masu''. That form stands for the present and the future in English.


The particle ''を'' (wo/o)

—  は —  verb

wa — wo verb


The particle ''を'' is being placed in front of the verb;it connects the verb and the direct object complement.




- 鈴木さん読みます。
- Suzuki san wa hon wo yomimasu.
- Mr Suzuki reads a book.

- スミスさん音楽聞きます。
- Sumisu san wa ongaku wo kikimasu.
- Mr Smith listens to music.


The ''-koto'' form

In some cases, the infinitive in English is being translated by the infinitive of the Japanese verb + ''こと'' (koto).

- 私映画を見ます。
- Watashi wa eiga wo mimasu.
- I watch a movie.

- 私趣味映画を見ることです。
- Watashi no shumi wa eiga wo mirukoto desu.
- My hobby is to watch movies.
