• Tanaka san wa doko desu ka. => Where is Mr Tanaka?

At the restaurant
In a lot of restaurants, there are pictures of the dishes on the menu or plastic replicas of them in the shop windows. It is rather easy to understand. It is still necessary to know a few words and phrases to order more easily.

• sumimasen. => Thank you. or Excuse me.
• omizu kudasai. => Some water, please.
• ocha kudasai. => Some tea, please.

Note: ''Kudasai'' means ''Give me..., please.'' However, ''sumimasen'' translates into ''Thank you.'' or ''Excuse me.''
Only when it is used to get someone's attention...:

• sumimasen, omizu kudasai. => Excuse me! Some water, please.
• karai desu ka. => Is it spicy?
• open bar desu ka. => Is it an open bar?
• okaikei onegaishimasu. => The bill, please.
